I work for a large company where we predominantly use undertake waterfall projects using a loose Prince 2 methodology. I have been tasked with trying to understand new techniques in the BA arena (other than Agile). What im looking for is something new that i can bring to the table. We use the standard waterfall/prince 2 standard template docs and mainly use word/excel/visio to produce the Business Requirements and the the Functional Specification. We use UML and use cases etc.
Does anyone have any views on whats new and interesting? I find because i only really speak to our internal BA's i have a very limited view on the wider world.
Any help would be appreciated.
In 30+ years of contracting and developing stuff ... I have never worked on a project where any one system at any organization was used 100% ... we basically used Hybrid methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Prince 2, etc.) ... and never focused on doing a project in any certain way the whole way through to delivery ... we worked in various roles and did what we had to do to get some system completed.
We have always started out on some Waterfall method to document the major requirements, business rules, visions and understandings and then worked on the project from there ... Team and Project methodologies, which usually varied.
I think the next big thing - its here already of course - is Data Science and Data Analytics using Big Data. I've investigated and found a good online course based in Australia - Deakin University. Tempted to do it myself.
