Shall and Will in functional requirements

I would like to know if the will statement can be used in a functional requirement and if not why

The functional req always have Shall. Ex- System shall have x no of connections. By stating System will have x no of connections is this incorrect.

Under what circumstances can one use will in requirements.

I had often seen will statement in f. requirements. There is no prohibition to use this word, just reccomendation.

Karl E. Wiegers siad, "My preference is to use the keyword shall to identify functional requirements whenever possible".

Re: Shall and Will in functional requirements

 Hi Sraaj,

On a scale of 1 to 100 of the important things about being a BA, this has got to rank at about... 1. Its way more important to get quality requirements than to worry about will or shall. That is a real skill to acquire and something that a lot of BAs aren't very good at. Just be consistent with your terminology whatever you choose to use in your company.
