Hi All
I'm new to the business analysis work(intern). About to start my new assignment (building a new software product from scratch), key function being requirements gathering. Need help to figure out how to start, what to collect and how to elaborate the collected information (with examples would be helpful).
Awaiting your responses.
Thanks in advance.
Start with the people;
1. Whio is paying for the product? Why do they want it? What's their vision?
2. Who will be using it? What's their motivation? Do they have an old system? Is it something brand new? Is it a web ap or for back office staff?
3. If it's a corporate system, who are the managers of the users? What do they want from teh system (eg reports)
That's a start. Check in back here when you have those answers.
For all newcomers to our discipline, you can't just start cold with no training and no organizational support...well, you can but you will fail so much that you may not get the time needed to get good at it.
Samanta: are there any BAs at your company? Any methods or techniques in use? If not, and you have to proceed, make sure you keep track of lessons learned. Also, you can read one or more books from this Amazon list: http://www.amazon.com/Top-Books-for-the-Business-Analyst/lm/RTB0NDA834SX7/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full
Thanks brown i think it should be a good start for me. Will drop my doubts in the further process.
