Use Excel to Simplify Analysis

Over past few years in my role I've realized that a lot of work we do can be done in a simpler manner by using Excel as a tool. For example analyzing a set of fields for different countries may require preparation of similar charts over and over again. But if we make use of Excel macros and other powerful features in Excel this can be simplified and a lot of time can be saved for other useful purposes. Please post the challenges that you face in reproducing same stuff multiple times or doing analysis that you think can be simplified using Excel. I've designed multiple such tools for myself and I'd hope it helps this community.

Re: Use Excel to Simplify Analysis

We used Macro's to create emails from an excel spreadsheet, this wasn't built by me but a colleague. It simplified the process of creating and sending multiple emails to suppliers.

The challenge I face with macro's is that there only ever seems to be one person who knows how the specific task works.

The person who developed the macro functionality.

And the IT team (where i worked) don't support macro's because they are so open to change by anyone.

Therefore there seems to be a lot of key man dependency when macro's are used. Which can be bad for both smaller and larger companies a like.

However, there are many things that macros are good for and it seems to be the tasks which need to be completed every week in the same manner using different data.
