Functional Requirements - Examples Needed

As an aspiring BA, I have been researching the internet for practical examples of a requirement that has been translated into a functional requirement. Unfortunately, my internet queries yield theory, which is great, however, I am seeking examples. Below I have created a fictitious requirement and I would like to understand how to convert this into a technical requirement.

“The user shall be able to search either all of the initial set of databases or select a subset from it”

How would this be written to enable developers to develop the code? Or will the developers utilize the use cases and UML diagrams?

Thanks

Re: Functional Requirements - Examples Needed
“The user shall be able to search either all of the initial set of databases or select a subset from it” -- Is a functional requirement.  It's a bit fuzzy, but it a functional capability, Search.  Now, to turn it into technical requirements, you will need to understand a little bit about the way searches are done. Is it a "Contains" search?  Is it an exact match search?  When will the search be initiated, as they type or upon submission?  Is there a preferred search algorithm?  Technical requirements are the technical considerations that need to be considered when your solution teams are designing and developing your solutions.  They also include some of your "non-functional" requirements.
