Class to brush up business/systems analyst skills

I am looking for a good class to brush up business/systems analyst skills. I have experience as a programmer/analyst but have been out of the industry for a while pursuing a different career path, and am now trying to get back into it to look for a Business/Systems Analyst position.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Karina,

You may want to check out B2T Training. I assume you are from the US. They offer Business Analyst training as well as a Business Analyst Certification Program in multiple US locations. You can access both from there homepage. For other possibilities check out the Modern Analyst Directory and look under the Education and Training category.

Also, if you want to brush up on your skills on your own, I am currently reading a book called UML for the IT Business Analyst by Howard Podeswa. It is very good. Even while I am well verse in most of the information it provides, I think it does an excellent job of presenting the methods and work products produced by Business Systems Analysts. In my opinion it is a great book for starters and well as for veteran analysts who are looking for a solid perspective and review of the business systems analysis process.

If you live in NJ, there is a 5-day class covering the BABOK draft 1.6 with an emphasis on useful techniques, templates and roles for business analysts at all skill levels at Middlesex County College (http://www.middlesexcc.edu/non_credit/fa07/index.cfm?page=7). There are a growing number of chapters of the International Institute of Business Analysis (www.theIIBA.org), including New Jersey, with on-going programs and professional development opportunities.
