Availability of PDUs for PMI-PBA Holders
As a recently certified PMI-PBA (without a PMP), I find  that most relevant webinars and presentations are still limiting themselves to awarding PDUs for only project and program management certifications.  This includes presentations concerning stakeholder analysis, requirements management, elicitation, and evaluation of solutions.  While a small handful do acknowledge and credit PMI-PBA holders, most do not.

I am not an IIBA credential holder, but I do tend to wonder if this same issue exists from a CDU perspective for that audience.  I also tend to wonder if presentations targeted to IIBA credential holders, which do award CDUs, could be applicable for PMI-PBA holders as well and if so whether that actually happens.  The PMI-PBA may be too new for that practice to be widely adopted as of yet.

I simply ask that continuing education presenters to begin considering whether the topics that they present can in any way be tied to the knowledge areas and practices for business analysis in general - preferably for both IIBA and PMI-PBA credential holders.  It can only help from a project management perspective to ensure that business analysis configures prominently in its literature and its professional development.  We BAs are out there, and we are looking to develop, and we are looking to gain credit for that development - and if you build it, we will come.

I’ve heard “The End is Near!” for Business Analysts for almost 20 years.  Waterfall project management, with its need for formal requirements, is dead…a dinosaur…so 1990’s.  To be honest, that’s mostly true.  With the publishing of the Agile Manifesto in 2001 there was no need for a 2-inch-...
Business analysis is used to identify and articulate the need for change in how organizations work, and to facilitate that change. As business analysts, we identify and define the solutions that will maximize the value delivered by an organization to its stakeholders. We look for opportunities for new business models and new ways to work together. ...
