Entry level BA in Banking and Finance domain

 Hello All,

i have been a developer for the last 4 years and have been recently promoted to the role of a BA in the Banking and Financial sector. As a entry level BA wanted to know a few things

  1. Banking and financial sector involve a lot of things. how do i build up my proficiency in, say the banking domain.
  2. do i have to go through any material on these domains.
  3. also, since i will be involved in projects of differents nationalities, there will be a lot of differences between the regulations of each country. how do i handle this.
  4. if i want to atleast have a knowledge on basics of Banking & Finanacial Sectors, what do u guys suggest that i start out with ?

Am based in India, and any suggestions from you guys on the above written things is highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Naveen N Shurpalekar

 Hi Naveen,

Without diminishing the importance of your business domain, if you want to truly be a BA you need to acquire some BA techniques. Take a look at the BABoK and buy some books on agile BA techniques. Perhaps you have these skills already? This will allow you to work in any business domain.

Without the techniques you'll just be a finance sector subject matter expert erroneously titled "BA". Very common. Also a perfectly valid career path of course.

good luck

Kimbo

Re: Entry level BA in Banking and Finance domain

Hi Naveen,

Even am a BA in Banking For past one year for a US bank Client.

MY scope was very limited to General Operation Track.

My opinion is Banking is Vast so choose a Module like Transactions/Deposits/Loans/BackOffice etc.,

Even am trying to know more as a BA.

Do share if you find anything useful.

Take care and All the Best

It answers: Is this story clear, feasible...
In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. At the heart of every great product or system is a need—a business goal, a customer pain point, or a regulatory requirement. But busines...
I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
