Sinuchacko,

You do not need the foundation certificate to do the Diploma.

For that matter you don't really need the ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis to get a BA job - the top 3 things that employers look for (in the UK) are in priority order

1. experience of doing analysis in the industry the job is in

2. a good degree in a hard subject (such as computer science, maths) as opposed to a soft subject (such as sociology or fine art)

3. a professional qualification (such as ISEB) - but while I have seen the first 2 as mandatory for quite a few jobs, I have never seen ISEB as mandatory.

Re your other post about what chapters to read - which certificate for the ISEB Diploma are you talking about?

Hope this helps,

Guy

Re: BA foundation

Cheers Guy for the help. I have done my MBA in Strategy and International Business from Wales University and work for Oracle as Account Manager. Being an Analyst have created deep interest, but I lack the knowledge to start from which scale. I have heard from colleagues that you need the certification from ISEB to work off as a BA. OR ELSE> how do I get exposed to the field as a trainee?

Re: BA foundation

Sinuchacka,

Most BAs I have come across migrated in to the role from working alongside projects in some capacity, adding value to the projects by doing analysis and then gaining enough recognition to get their job title changed. And that's what I did. I came from a programming background, but I have come across people who come from business background, PMO background. I have only come across 1 'career' BA who trained as one at University and has never done anything else. I have met a lot of BAs as I have trained and recruited them as well as worked as one - but my experience are still subjective and anecodatal.

Likewise, I have never seen a job yet where ISEB Diploma is mandatory - only ever desireable. I would certainly challenge that having the Diploma will get you a trainee position.

There are quite a few other posts in this site about migrating to BA and an article on becoming a BA on my website that gives advice but maybe not what you would expect...

Hope this helps,

Guy

Sinuchacka,

Guy is giving you good advice I think. Can I be a little more blatant than him though? I hire BA's from time to time and I can say from what little information that you have included that I would definitely not hire you. No IT experience, no BA experience. In your favour you've done a training course but without experience that won't make me hire you. In the current climate there are lots of people with experience available. The training you did may get you a junior BA job somewhere.

One caveat is that you may well have relevant and useful business experience that is useful to a project in that business area. If so, that can help you to get your first BA job.

With an MBA, I can't help wondering why you want to be a BA? Perhaps you might be more successful looking for work as a PM/BA. Project management seems a more likely entry point to IT for an MBA.

Sorry if I'm being negative.

Kimbo
