As  you have mentioned that you need to documentation so in that case you must have a clear picture of pain points. You have to identify the business needs so that you can understand the requirements for compliance with legislation.These tasks can be organised into three broad categories:
Communication
Analysis
Organisation
 
Apart from this you must have Analytical skills, Technical skills, Manegerial skills, and Negotiation skills.
