Lead IT Program Manager San Jose State University

Another Source’s client, San Jose State University, is recruiting a Lead IT Program Manager to join their team in San Jose, California. This is a great position to take your strategic experience and drive a holistic connected IT experience for the University. You will work a hybrid schedule of three days on site and two days remote in San Jose, CA.   (This position is internally titled: Director of IT PMO).

The Lead IT Program Manager reports to the AVP, Strategic Planning and Portfolio Management as a member of the SJSU IT Leadership Team. The incumbent assists the AVP in strategic planning, annual planning and service planning and works in collaboration with leaders in IT to support the diversity and inclusion strategies.

What you will be doing:  

In this role, you will be responsible for the overall project management and governance function by providing leadership, coordination, and management of the Program Management Office (PMO) processes and functions. You will lead a team of six and manage the day-to-day operations of the PMO, including planning, organizing and directing projects.  You will ensure that projects schedule, budget and deliverables are properly executed and maintained according to the approved project plan.  You will provide general oversight and leadership to project teams comprised of SJSU IT staff, campus administrative staff, faculty and students, vendors, consultants and external agencies for the successful execution of program activities.   

 

The anticipated salary range for this role is $150,000- 160,000 a year. 

  

How you will be spending your time:  

PMO Leadership - 60% 

Lead the identification and implementation (or improvement) of project management processes, methods, tools, guidelines, standards, and a maturity roadmap to establish a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders to improve the probability of successful project delivery  
Lead the identification, implementation, and facilitation of portfolio management processes and governance, including the intake mechanism, to ensure adherence to the enterprise strategy and drive business value  
Build and maintains relationships with senior leadership and key PMO stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor  
Foster collaboration, strategic alignment and integrated planning and execution across multiple functions within SJSU IT.  
Regularly review and evaluate opportunities to improve the project management best practices to achieve higher maturity in PPM  

 

Strategy and Planning - 20% 

Assist AVP in strategic planning, annual planning and service planning  

 

Program Management  -10% 

Participate and contribute in other work-related activities as assigned  
Lead large scale programs/projects (as needed) from evaluation, development, implementation, validation and documentation.  

 

Personnel Management - 10% 

Develop a team of highly skilled experts in the area of advanced analytics and communications.  
Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to employees through regularly scheduled 1-1s and ongoing interaction.  
Recruits, interviews, selects, and trains required staff to meet ongoing workforce plan.  
Ensures the appropriate CSU and SJSU Human Resources, and IT policies and practices are implemented correctly  

  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

Excellent written and oral communication skills.  
In depth knowledge in IT strategic planning, annual planning and service planning.  
Skilled in managing initiatives or programs to promote diversity and inclusion in a large organization.  
Strong knowledge of Program Management principles, practices, and procedures.  
Ability to lead and manage program and change implementations in alignment with IT best practices.  
Ability to develop collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students who are technical and non-technical.  
Ability to effectively manage performance, engage team members, provide coaching, and respond to situations affecting staff.  
Skills in creating and managing complex project plans, timelines, budgets, and critical paths.  
Ability to adapt to modification and changes to project plans, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics to accommodate these changes.  
Ability to learn, interpret, and apply CSU, SJSU, and IT policies and procedures relating to and impacting IT work, and/or administrative specialties.   
Good Program Management Leadership skills.  

  

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field  
7 years of progressive experience in IT management position  
5 years of relevant experience in IT PMO and strategic planning
