EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--iRise®, the worlds leading visualization solutions company, today announced it has been awarded a second U.S. patent by the U.S. Patent Trademark Office (PTO), no. US 7,349,837 B2. The iRise patent covers the systems and methods for a programming environment for a simulation of a computer application. This patent primarily concerns editing and association of text-based requirements in context with visual simulations in iRise Studio, which is the authoring tool used to create interactive, high fidelity visualizations of business applications. The patent was awarded on March 25th, 2008.

Specifically, the patent covers these areas:

  • Showing a graphical programming area for a simulation;
  • Showing text requirements at the same time;
  • Allowing the user to associate text requirements with elements of the simulation; and,
  • Storing such association for future reference.

In summary, the patented functions give simulation authors the ability to tightly couple visual simulations with written business requirements to ensure they are in sync.

iRise simulations are fully functional mock-ups of proposed business applications that act as a visualization tool for business people that need a better way to communicate their needs around new initiatives. Linking text requirements to the visualized business needs has proven to be an effective communication method for downstream development organizations that need more detail on what to build. Prior to iRise, the standard was to create static diagrams or wire frames and manually refer to text requirements that live in outside documents. With iRise, users can embed text requirements directly into the simulation area with an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop approach.

Were very proud of this second patent which broadens the protection of our invention, said Maurice Martin, president, founder and chief operating officer. Our forward-thinking designers and engineers continue to set the standard for intuitive software which business units leverage to visualize applications before theyre built.

Last year, iRise announced its first patent which covers the use of a graphical, drag-and-drop interface to allow non-technical users to define functionally rich simulations without resorting to software code to generate them. The iRise patent portfolio is expected to grow even further with three additional patent applications currently under review by the U.S. PTO. The full text and images of the U.S. patent no. US 7,349,837 B2 are available at http://www.uspto.gov/ by doing a patent number search under issued patents.
