Results of “How are Businesses using Microsoft SharePoint in the Enterprise? Market Survey 2010” indicate significant growth in enterprise SharePoint adoption and need for third-party BPM solutions to enhance business value

DALLAS SEPTEMBER 23, 2010 Global 360, a leading provider of Process and Document Management solutions, today unveiled the results of the How are Businesses using Microsoft® SharePoint® in the Enterprise? Market Survey 2010. The survey was conducted to determine the breadth and depth of Microsoft® SharePoint® usage in the market today, understand how companies are driving value out of their implementations, and identify challenges related to their investment.

Key survey results:

Significant Growth in Enterprise SharePoint Adoption

SharePoint could see enterprise adoption rates as high as 98%. Although 80% of SharePoint deployments are based on SharePoint 2007, 8% of survey respondents had deployed SharePoint 2010. According to a March 2010 independent Forrester Research, Inc. report, SharePoint And BPM – Finding the Sweet Spot,  “SharePoint’s strengths as a collaboration environment have made it one of Microsoft’s shining stars, with 2008 sales of $1.3 billion, growing at about 25% per annum.”

Third-party BPM Technologies Integrated with SharePoint Enhance Business Value

When asked about SharePoint deployment challenges, development time and effort required to build business applications was ranked as the top challenge (30%). Respondents were also challenged by the lack of intuitive, easy-to-use SharePoint-based interfaces for business users (21%).

Deborah Rosen, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Global 360, noted “Real business problems are complex and often need many workflows in order to deal with exceptions. Organizations need visibility into what’s happening end-to-end, and the capability to make changes quickly. Our persona-based BPM solutions leverage SharePoint 2007 or 2010 to move beyond content management and simple workflow. Users can build robust, enterprise class processes while still taking advantage of SharePoint's strengths in content management and collaboration.”

Increased Support of Mission-Critical Business Processes

Twenty seven percent of organizations utilize over half of the documents stored in SharePoint to support mission-critical business processes. While many organizations start using SharePoint as a content repository or portal technology, 67% of survey participants have extended its use to manage document workflows, and 56% support general business processes.

Global 360 conducted this survey March 2010-August 2010.  886 people familiar with SharePoint from multiple industries worldwide participated in the survey.
