ANSWER

The difference between these two Tasks are “What” versus “How”

The Specify and Model Requirements Task describes the “What”: Results from requirement elicitation are analyzed and representations of these results are created.  Techniques include a range of abstraction from High-Level (such as Data Flow Diagrams and Process Modeling); Medium-Level (such User Stories plus Use Cases and Scenarios) to Detail-Level (such as Prototyping and Roles and Permission Matrix).

The Define Solution Options Task describes the “How”: The Business Analyst describes various approaches to implement the solution.  One or more design options may be identified when designing the solution.  The Business Analyst weighs the difference between the options and describes approaches to implement the solution.  Considerations include the organization’s change strategy; validated and prioritized requirements; and the requirements Architecture (how the requirements inter-relate).

Do your homework prior to the business analysis interview!

Having an idea of the type of questions you might be asked during a business analyst interview will not only give you confidence but it will also help you to formulate your thoughts and to be better prepared to answer the interview questions you might get during the interview for a business analyst position.  Of course, just memorizing a list of business analyst interview questions will not make you a great business analyst but it might just help you get that next job.
