You always need to be prepared to ask a question or two of the interviewer. You should have one or two written down that you can customize based on the interviewer's role on the team or in the organization. Even better is if there is some line of questioning that has occurred during the course of the interview that triggers a related question. Here are some examples of questions you can customize to each interview and/or interviewer:

  • Can you share a situation in which your team had a really good (or really poor) experience and how you think the business analyst / product owner added (or should add) value
  • (If an Agile organization) Does your team follow all of the ceremonies recommended by the Agile framework? If not, then which do you not always follow and why (make sure that you are ready to prepare to answer this question yourself with an appropriate response for why you think a particular ceremony can be skipped).

Do your homework prior to the business analysis interview!

Having an idea of the type of questions you might be asked during a business analyst interview will not only give you confidence but it will also help you to formulate your thoughts and to be better prepared to answer the interview questions you might get during the interview for a business analyst position.  Of course, just memorizing a list of business analyst interview questions will not make you a great business analyst but it might just help you get that next job.
