ANSWER

Responsive Design refers to the ability of a website or application to respond to a user’s screen size, platform, device orientation, and behavior. Through the use of a flexible grid layout and CSS media queries the application can alter it’s layout as well as available features to provide an optimal viewing and user experience.

Application designers need to anticipate how different users will interact with an application as their screen sizes vary (including different monitor sizes and mobile devices).  The designers will position the primary content in a manner that minimizes the need for screen resizing, panning, and excessive scrolling.  This means that as the available screen width decreases content in a multi-column layout will begin to reposition so that aligns into a single column.  Menu layouts are another important consideration, since a horizontal menu won’t fit on a limited width screen and a vertical menu will take up a large portion of a mobile devices prime viewing area.  Designer may also consider whether there is some content or features that only make sense to deliver on larger screen sizes.

Responsive Design is more imperative today than ever.  Some websites and applications see more than 70% of user visits coming from mobile devices.  Every website and application built today needs to consider whether users will be permitted to access it on a mobile device. If the answer is yes, which it usually is, then responsive design is of paramount concern and should be designed in from the beginning rather than treated as an afterthought.

Presently there is a tendency for a 'mobile presence first' trend among businesses as this is relatively easier to build than the traditional pc based website where more design and attributes are required. Loads of potential customers transact more businesses on their mobiles than on the pc or tablets!!

Responsive design is a way to deal with site page creation that makes use of flexible layouts, flexible pictures and falling template media queries. The objective of responsive design is to fabricate site pages that distinguish the guest's screen size and orientation and change the layout accordingly.
