I'm looking to adopt the SRS (software requirements specification) and am wondering how to incorporate with ReqPro.
We must be able to import each detailed requirement into ReqPro. I'm not sure how to accomplish this when using the SRS where we have a running list in Word.
We need to convert our list of requirements, which is a numbered/bulleted list in Word, into a .csv file for import into ReqPro.
Copying the list from Word and pasting into Excel is not working out well for me.
I like the numbered bullets in Word because they auto generate and re-generate every time a requirement is inserted in the middle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've been spending a lot of time playing with ReqPro so I figured I would answer my own question so hopefully it will help someone else down the road.
ReqPro does have mechanisms in place where you can create your requirements in a word document and import them into the tool. By applying styles and/or using keywords, the ReqPro import process can parse out the requirements, business rules, etc. There is a lot of setup involved to get it right and I am not close. I have not been able to find much documented information on how to do the setup. However, knowing that it is possible was the biggest obstacle to overcome.
Bill,
I have used ReqPro with Word, and used the 'tagging' function with the ReqPro Word macros. ReqPro has to be setup by your administrator to enable uploading of Word documents into ReqPro packages (folders). The macros allow you to select text within a Word document and create a requirement ('tag') from the selected text. Once you've tagged, ReqPro assigns a unique number to each requirement and stores in its database - but keeps a bookmark in the Word document as well. You have to enter the requirement attributes separately (priority, status, etc.) - but it allows you to continue adding and editing requirements text within the uploaded Word document itself. Much easier than importing or working from the native ReqPro requirements trees.
