Hi there...
Hello there,

I just got myself registered to this Forum with loads of hope that i will get guidance towards my aspiration of becoming a Business Analyst.

Education Background :

i have done my engineering in IT and MBA in marketing and finance.

Industry exp : i have exp. in sales and investment banking . But i always aspire to become a BA in an IT industry. Though i am an engineer in IT but never worked on any Develoment tools for developing any product or anything like that.

Is it necessary to have the product development exp in order to become a BA in an IT industry?

Waitng for your reply eagerly.

Regards,
Pratima

Re: Hi there...

Hello Pratima,

Firstly, I am not a F/T Business Analyst, although I have extensive experience in IT, some of it in a BA role.

The short answer to your question is ' No ' , you dont need to have product development experience to become a BA.

Many BA's I interacted with were for enhancements to existing products; perhaps one may surmise that Senior BA's would get more of the new product development work.

Essential skills would be good communication, business and technical skills; which seems evident from your educational background.

Perusing through this forum will give you the information you need, plus others more experienced than myself in BA could elaborate.

Cheers and Good Luck,
