Re: Business Analyst – Job ID: BA-101

Dear Hiring Manager,

With reference to your March 1, 2010 advertisement on MonsterBoard, I would like to apply for the position of Business Analyst.

I offer you 25+ years experience that spans the entire project life cycle, from vision to implementation through customer support and training. Some of my qualifications include:

Major contributor to the successful completion and on-time implementation of over 35 multi-million dollar, government and private sector projects.

Leadership skills building and managing multi-location, Cross-Functional (On-site / Offshore) software development and production support teams.

Technical background with various languages, platforms, tools and technologies (Procedural and Object-Oriented) and the ability to understand project initiatives from different environments.

The accompanying resume provides an overview of my skills and accomplishments. I would welcome the opportunity to schedule a personal interview and discuss this position with you.

Sincerely

Joe Candidate

Re: Cover Letter Critique - Feedback Please

 Hi Joe Candidate,

I recommend you specifically address the requirements listed in each job advertisement. What I do is copy their list of requirements and answer each one by specifically mentioning relevant experience for each requirement. When I've made the effort to do this, I can't remember where the recruiter hasn't responded. Remember that the recruiters often don't know much about the job they are advertising, so if you spend the time to help them out by saying specifically why you are qualified for this job, you'll get a response.

Its really tedious to do this but extremely worthwhile. Put yourself in the recruiters shoes and think about what you'd like to see in a candidates response. They'll get hundreds if not thousands of responses to an advertisement. You need to stand out from the crowd and make it easy for them to put you forward. Form letters don't work.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, a custom Cover Leter for each position. It might take a little time for each, but it will stand out from the others.

Now to change my resume format to more of a Results Oriented format instead of the "What I Did There" format that I've used for all those years....times change.

Once again, Thanks.
