Masters Degree and Business Analysis

Greetings!

I have 4 years of experience as a Web Application Developer (Microsoft Platform) and I'm finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems with a track in System Analysis. In the past two years I have been working as a consultant for different companies, where I had to perform many tasks that required modeling of data and systems (Use Cases, ERD’s, State Chart Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, etc)

Right now, I'm thinking in starting my MBA with a concentration in Information Systems at NYU (if I get selected in the part time program) and I wanted to know if an MBA with this concentration would really help me become a business analyst one day, or help me get the job that will aimed my efforts towards that goal acquiring the experience while I'm attending to school.

Thank You,

Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,

Absolutely!  You are in a very good shape of becoming a strong Business Analyst since you already have application development experience, have been exposed to many modeling methods, and with an MBA under your belt you should be golden.

You seem so enthusiastic about Eduardo's plans, let me pose this question to you.  (Perhaps this should be a separate post.)  What is the general opinion of online degrees, and online MBAs in particular.  Accredited institutions, of course.

There is no question that classroom training is more effective than on-line courses - for a variety of reasons. I tend to be suspicious of MBAs which are fully on-line. Part of the MBA experience is working in teams with others to solve problems and deliver projects, networking with fellow classmates and learning from their experience, interacting directly with the instructors.

Having said that, there are many MBA programs which are mixed: have both classroom and on-line courses. I can see how a program like that would work fairly well and maybe worthwhile if it is part of an accredited school.
