Hello all. I am wondering how hard it will be to move from being in QA to being a BA. I am currently between contracts so there isn't an opportunity to do this within a company.
I have done a lot of analysis and at one time was a systems analyst but for the past 10 years all my job titles have been Senior Test Analyst and Test Manager.
My fear is that a recruiter will take one look at my resume and I will be dismissed for anything else but Testing roles.
How can I redo my resume to show my BA skills and downplay the testing roles? I can't change my job titles although I have seen people do this a lot.
I thought about doing a functional resume but heard that they are frowned upon.
I have also complete a course in business analysis.
There seems to be a great need for BA where I am but the ads always list experienced.
Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I moved from a QA position to a BA position and one of the things I would recommend you do is change the focus of your resume. Think about the skills that are most important to a BA position, such as strong communication skills and adjust your resume to highlight those skills. In other words, for your last position, you may be leading with QA skills in your resume, such as the types of testing you have done, defect tracking, etc. You should start with communication skills, your ability to develop good relationships with the business and development teams, your strengths in understanding the business requirements, etc. You can then list your QA skills, but only after first highlighting the BA skills you have developed during your QA position.
