The newest list of Best Careers for 2008 published by the U.S. News & World Report includes the Usability/User Experience Specialist. This is very significant because many business analysts, whether they know it or know, also perform the role of a Usability/User Experience Designer.
For example, when a business analyst creates the system use cases for a new system, (s)he's in fact determining the sequence, number, and types of steps that an end user must perform in order to accomplish a given task. Usability design starts very early in the process as the number of steps and their sequence have a great bearing on usability. Same goes for UI Design: many business analysts are actually the ones who create the first wireframes, mockups, and prototypes of what the application might look like.
