Preparing for Business Analyst role, need help for right approach

Hello, I am MBA in Marketing had previous experience of 4 yrs in the same field and had a maternity break. I am aspiring to become a Business Analyst and found preparing for ECBA would help. My query is - Getting ECBA certification is the right approach? - While preparing for ECBA is it advisable to also prepare for Agile certification? -If I am specifically looking for IT Business Analysis role than what more steps I should take in this particular situation.

So, I have SQL on my resume because ive used it in the past in Access. On the interview, they asked me a few questions like what right join is, etc. asked me to describe what a relational dabatase is, primary key, foreign key, etc i know the basics so i obviously passed that part. But, i havent used it much in the past other than very basic statements. The job would be a position where i would go into the database and query out ad hoc request in SQL Server. Alot of the common request are already prebuilt. The job would start in 5 weeks. Currently, just finished up a contracted position, so without income and this position is a pretty solid in at a big company. So, my quesiton is. could i learn enough in 5 weeks to query the basic ad hoc request out of SQL Server or is this too big of a risk.

Hi everyone, I'm a recent graduate in business strategy and management and I'm 28 years old. I would like to start a career as a business analyst, however the problem is that I have developed few related skills during my studies. I had very short experiences in different sectors, 1 month in a bank, 1 month as an inventory employee in a chamber of commerce and 1 month as an accountant in a store. in your opinion, can these experiences which are distant from the reference sector be viewed badly by employers? in recent months, to have a bit of credibility, I took the coursera google advanced data analytics certificate (only later did I see that there was the basic one, but there I did it anyway), but I know that it's not enough to have an important knowledge of the sector, in fact my CVs continue to be rejected. so what I ask myself is: what is the most useful thing I can do? I was thinking of getting the ECBA issued by the IIBA, which from what I understand is more recognized and carries more weight. It's really like this? what should I do?

Salutations, I am currently a second year student in South Africa (Age 20) studying Bsc BIT (Business Information Technology) through the London School of Business and Management, I kind of stepped into the course not knowing what I was going to do one day choosing the degree since IT has been a passion since I was a kid and the business management aspect of the course kept my dad happy who is a banker by the way (go figure), this covers my background... Earlier today I went on some job search sites under the IT / Telecomms topics and did some browsing. I figured I'd do programming after completing my degree since I do have .net skills (C#, VB.net, ASP.net) and because I excel at it, but after having some talks with people who have been in the development sector for some time I grew a little anxious about the working environment, I'm a very social and outgoing person and enjoy public speaking and figured I’d be wasting some of that potential. I then came across numerous applications for BAs and SAs, having only read about their roles in text books, I wiki'd that shit to look at some of the requirements and it sounds like an absolute dream job! I'm thinking of either doing my MBA or MSC in information systems management (which sounds perfect) after completing my HONS degree. The job applications are quite vague on the actual skills required and seem to vary tremendously, however skills such as programming (.net, java and C++), SQL, UML skills and a broad IT knowledge seem to be common among most. My essay is drawing a close, I would like to know where I go from here if I wish to pursue this line of work. Are there skills I need to learn on my own time? And how do I get into this career path as even the Junior Applications require 1 - 3 years worth of Analysis experience??? Thanks and sorry for the lengthy read! Hi Guys, This is my very first post in this forum. To give a very brief overview of my situation, I am a migrant from Sri Lanka who arrived in Melbourne last October. I am a seasoned IT professional who has worked within many disciplines in the IT industry, starting off from sales and marketing, then gradually moving in to graphic / web design, team leading, custom software project management, and finally moving in to IT related business operations management. Since being in Melbourne, I managed to land a job in retail at Vodafone Australia, and i have been employed as an in-store business specialist for almost an year now. Moving from IT to Business Analyst

I currently work in the IT field at a company where I am the only IT person at my company. I do everything from help desk to system administration to networking. I'm interested in switching out of the IT field and becoming a business analyst would allow me to switch out of IT but still do some IT activities. I would like to get out of my current situation because I just started a family and being on-call 24/7/365 is starting to get in the way of being with my family. I have no problem working long hours but would like to be able to relax after work and on weekends when my work is done. At my current company, I already do similar job duties as a business analyst in that I find various software's and hardware's that fit our business needs and present the entire process and all the costs and times to the manager or my administration team. I took some project management and business analyst classes in college and still have my course work to review but are there other materials I should learn before pursuing a new career in business analyst or certifications I should get?

Highly Experienced Test Manager - Is it worth moving to Business Analysis?

I have 15 years of experience, first few years in development and then in testing and currently working as a Test Manager. To move on from here I have two options - improve technically and get into automation or move into business analysis. Most of the experience is as a manual tester with great experience in Finance domain so a move should be possible but my question is are there roles available in Business Analysis that would pay me at or more than my current pay scale?

IT Application Analyst to Business Analyst

Hello all! I work in a large hospital/clinic as an IT Application Analyst and have been looking to transition into a Business Analyst role. I finally was granted an interview coming up in a couple weeks. Along with the interview, I have to present a case study. The case study I need to put together is that 'new metrics need to be developed to report out on the progress of training' for a new project within our company, as well as if we are on track to get everyone trained. I need to describe the steps on how I would gather the business requirements for the metrics using data provided to me. The data I was given includes a number of users within different departments. As someone that doesn't have a lot of background on the Business Analyst world, I wasn't sure where to start. My initial thought was to break down the training by department, but obviously leaving one or two people back for coverage while others were at training. I know the interviewers are probably looking for Business Analyst specific language but I'm not sure what that is. Any thoughts? Any help is appreciated!

Certification options

Hello! A month ago I completed a 5-month course of study in data analysis/business intelligence. My DA/BI knowledge is limited to my school and lab work. Haven't held any paid positions yet but looking. Also looking into certification. I haven't given much thought to a career path. I like writing queries, database planning and creation and design, and planning scheduled tasks for things like backup and maintenance. So in my ideal job I would do those a lot. I would not pursue management or leadership roles. My guidance counselor recommended I pursue certification in Access, which she said would be foundational, but I'm interested in anything an analysis professional might say on the subject (certifying). Specifically, is MCP (she also mentioned this) and/or MOS a realistic goal for a newb? Also, is anyone certified in Access? I think that would be an MOS. Again, any stray thoughts or insights are welcome, I'm a sponge now and soaking up everything. Thank you so much.
