Requirements Document - an MS Word template with pre-set fonts, styles, chapter headers and guidelines.
In order to access this template from the “File/New” menu, change the file extension to ".dot" and copy the file in the MS Word template folder. For MS Word 2003 this folder is: "C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates” . Then when you want to create a new document using this template you will follow these steps: “File/New” then on the right hand side of the screen select “On my computer...” and choose this template from the “General” tab on the “Templates” window that pops up.

Thanks! This is just what I needed - I hate having to start from scratch when there is a template available. I wish I would have known about it 6 weeks ago though, you would have saved me a bunch of work!

This is "Wicked"!!! Thanks for the templates! I have been waisting lots of time surfing lokking for a site that will give me exactly what I need. I am a qualified Analyst, but because I work on different projects all the time for different organisations it become so challenging to have templates that fit different business scenarious! This is an excellent document. One suggestion I would have is that a Glossary/Terminology section be added. We always have that in our document as Appendix A.

Please don't mind a critical comment.
This includes far too many diagrams / tables probably because IIBA BOK itself is not clear in separating BA / Requirements and Design. There are other templates which are similar.
Let's remain within the scope of BA / RE and work on a crisp and compact template.

I was looking for something that would provide requirement numbers per chapter (Heading 1) or per Chapter.Section (Heading 2) resetting the requirement number to 1 at each chapter and section so each requirement is numbered uniquely in the document.
Basically:
1. Chapter title
1.1. Section title
1.1.1 requirement
1.1.2 req
1.1.3 req
1.2. next secton title
1.2.1 req
1.2.2 req
2. next chapter title
2.1. section title
2.1.1 req
2.1.2 req
All requirements will follow a section title, but a section is not required to have requirements. It may contain other descriptive text.
It's and inerestingly structured template that may be useful. (Personally I liked DOORS, and Rational Rose, but for the price, this may be worth it.)
Has anyone tried putting this document into a book containing requirements for other parts of the project. (Like a book in a set of encyclopedias.) I'm wondeing how the numbering would end up in the 2nd, 3rd, etc book. Like the books in the Bible where each book has its own chapters stating at 1 and each chapter restarts the verse numbers.

This is a hierarchical organization with numbers and dots to clearly revealing the hierarchy. The template given also follows this TREE structure.
All requirements MAY NOT fall in strict TREE structure. There may be other relations between the sections identified. It is possible to hyperlink them in an MS Word Dcoument. That allows full navigation.

I did not say "this is very good". It is too monolithic and too large for practical use. I felt it is necessary to create and update a set of Business Requriement Documents which are not parts of one large document.
There is a need for a lot of flexibility in each document to efficiently meet the project needs.

Though I prepared my own Requirement Gathering Doc, which is crisp and precise. This one is too detailed, often clients get bored by information overload.
