My two cents' worth:

The kinds of attitudes that do prevail in various industries with regard to BA roles and tasks are quite lop-sided.

Many top managers and decision-makers come from paltry backgrounds - and rise in their ranks thanks to their performance, and highly developed people skills.

Somehow, many such personnel fall into an illusionary canopy of thought that goes like this: if it's going to slow things down, it's not a priority for me.

Of course, reengineering, requirements development / engineering / management, process analyses and project management are areas where there will be a learning curve with regard to any improvement.

And unless key players are not willing to climb up the learning curve, and fear that business will suffer during such a climb, are the prime obstacles in the paths of many a BA or EA.
